The Special Education District of Lake County’s Early Childhood Assessment Teams (ECAT) provide diagnostic services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers from birth to six years of age.

Services for children under three can include screenings, as well as evaluations in the areas of vision and audiology.  Approximately 300 families with Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) annually are assisted in the transition process into an appropriate early childhood experience.

Multi-disciplinary educational evaluations are available for children ages 2½ to 6 years old to determine eligibility for special education programs and/or services.  The parent is an active participant in the evaluation process and contributes to the development of appropriate goals in the provision of ongoing programming.  During a typical year, over 650 children participate in educational evaluations.
